For more than 25 years, Bismillah Engineering Work has built machinery for lead acid battery plants across Pakistan. Today we also provide lithium battery solutions: MS battery boxes, BMS, lithium cells and accessories. Customers often ask us which type of battery they should choose. The honest answer is that it depends on how the battery will be used.

How the two batteries differ

A lead acid battery stores energy in lead plates and sulphuric acid. It is a proven, low-cost technology and is easy to recycle. A lithium battery, most commonly LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) for energy storage, stores energy in lithium cells and needs a battery management system (BMS) to protect and balance them.

Where lithium makes sense

  • Daily cycling, such as solar storage that charges and discharges every day
  • Long backup times where weight and space matter
  • Electric rickshaws, loaders and other vehicles
  • Sites where low maintenance is important

Lithium cells offer many more charge cycles than lead acid batteries, can be discharged more deeply, charge faster and weigh much less for the same capacity. The higher upfront price is often recovered over the life of the battery when it is used every day.

Where lead acid still makes sense

  • Standby backup that is rarely discharged
  • Projects where the lowest upfront cost matters most
  • Systems already designed around lead acid charging

What makes a good lithium battery pack

A lithium pack is only as good as its parts. The cells should be matched by capacity and voltage. The BMS must suit the cell chemistry, the number of cells in series and the current of the load, and should communicate with your inverter if it supports it. The busbars, cables and breaker must be rated for the current. Finally, the cells need a strong, earthed enclosure that holds them firmly and keeps out dust.

That last part is where our fabrication experience counts. We build MS lithium boxes in our own workshop in North Karachi, sized to your cell layout, with cut-outs for terminals, breaker and display, and finished in powder coating.
